To activate the option of Sources or Unknown sources on your device, it may be a little different in some models, but if you have Android 8 or higher, you will not find the option of Unknown sources easily .

Activate Unknown Origins on Android 7 and lower

If you have a not so modern device with Android version 7, 6, 5 or 4, the procedure to activate this option is simple. Depending on the phone model you have, the steps are similar, for that we do the following:

  • Go to " Settings " or " Configurations " of the phone.
  • Go to the " Security " or " Lock and Security " section and press to enter.
  • Swipe the screen until you see the option for " Unknown Sources " or "Unknown Origins".
  • Tap on the gray button to activate the option and allow the installation of external applications.

By activating the " Unknown Origins" option , you will now be able to install APK applications downloaded outside of the Google Play Store.

Activate Unknown Origins in Android 8, 9, 10 and 11

As we mentioned above, in all models that have the version of Android 8, 9, 10, 11 and the new version that is soon to be released Android 12 , they do not have the option to activate Unknown sources.

It is incorporated into the applications that we use to install the APK, such as the web browser or a file manager. For that, what we will have to do when having the APK downloaded is to perform the following steps:

  • Open your web browser and go to the " Download " folder.
  • Tap on the downloaded APK file and it will tell you that it doesn't have permission to install unknown apps from this source.
  • To grant permission, tap on " Settings " and turn on the " Trust this source " option.
  • Go back and you will be able to install the APK that you download from that web browser.

If you are going to install an APK file from another app such as a file manager, you will have to perform the same steps to grant permissions and activate the " Trust this source " option .
